  1. Under the Current Events Quiz section in the directions you handed out to the class, it says to refer back to the blog for a list of topics for the Current Events Quiz. Although, when i looked through the blog i could not find the list of topics. Are these just the topics we should be familiar with for when we take the Current Events Quiz on the first day of class or are they for a different part of the summer assignment? Thank you!

  2. There is a list of news sources you posted on the blog in the Approved Sources for Current Events Scavenger Hunt page. Are we supposed to subscribe to these sources as well as the recommended sources you included in the directions that i had already subscribed to; BBC, NYT and NPR or no?

  3. For the Current Events Scavenger Hunt, what 5 articles should we refer to in order to find information for the list of words you gave us? Can we only use 5 articles to find the words or are we allowed to use more? Also, where should we write and post the final document for this part of the project?

  4. Hi Abigail, For the current events quiz, I will post a list of topics closer to the beginning of the course - in August for students in the fall semester and in January for students in the spring semester. There have been a lot of national (Senate health bill, Supreme Court decisions, voting integrity commission, Congressional testimonies, etc.) and international (London tower fire, Manchester attack, Qatar, Raqqa, G-20 conference, China/Taiwan, North Korea missile launch, etc.) news stories already this summer. It will also be helpful to know the leaders of major world powers. Hopefully this list of major topics helps you get an idea of what I'll be looking for on the quiz. Also, remember, if you come to class with a paper "journal" or notes, you will be permitted to use that on the quiz. If you've already subscribed to BBC, NYT, & NPR, I think you'll have plenty of information to reference for the quiz.

For the Scavenger Hunt, select one of the news sources on this blog and use the search function to find your chosen term in an article or story (video and audio news is also acceptable!) Then create a POST (not a comment) to this blog with your citation and your summary. I've created a sample post to help you with the format. The assignment requires you to create 5 posts - each post will be a summary of how one news article uses one of the concepts from the list. You are only required to complete 5 article summaries/citations about 5 terms and there will not be extra credit if you create extra posts.

Thank you for posting these questions to our blog. Chances are others may have similar questions and this is a great way to get that information to everyone!
