"Climate" in the News

"Jakarta Is Sinking So Fast, It Could End Up Underwater", by Michael Kimmelman, establishes the alarming fact that the rising sea levels in Indonesia's colossal capitol show no sign of ceasing. The "sinking" of Jakarta is greatly influenced by climate change, which has caused the Java Sea to now rise more than two inches per year in many areas. Ivran Pulungan, an advisor to the governor, has become apprehensive about the future of Jakarta, especially with the predicted rising temperatures that could put the capitol under three more feet over the course of the century. However, manmade troubles like illegal well-digging are also at fault for putting 40% of Jakarta under sea level.
